July 2020 Newsletter - The Monthly ROR (Return on Relationship)

Welcome to the July ROR Summary!

Welcome to the July ROR (Return on Relationship)! Summer is well and truly here, and while this year is a little unconventional, we hope that you are still finding ways to recharge and stay safe, healthy and cool.

This month, we would like to turn to you, our Wharton community, and shine a spotlight on alumni entrepreneurs and small business owners to share their experiences navigating the Covid-19 pandemic. If you would like to share your story or nominate another member of our community, please reach out to [email protected]. We will feature a couple of stories in our next newsletter.

We are also delighted to welcome the latest cohort of Wharton alumni to the region! On July 23rd, we are hosting a Special Event in collaboration with Wharton Career Management to introduce Wharton’s lifelong alumni career resources, learn best practices for an effective job search and hear about the latest hiring trends. This will be followed by a virtual alumni meet and greet. We encourage you to join us whether you are a recent alum or in the midst of a career transition.

In the meantime, please keep your notes and feedback coming to us. We love hearing from you, and respond to each and every email.

Thurs., July 16 - Strategic Career Management

Practical insights for stronger advancement, job satisfaction, and compensation in an uncertain world

There has never been a time when proactive, strategic and actionable career management has been more important. Yet, an estimated 75% of executives “under-manage” their careers. Career “under-management” in today’s uncertain environment marked by massive, ongoing disruption threatens even the healthiest of careers. In many instances, the painful consequences and resulting career deceleration are felt for multiple years. This webinar is designed to assist alumni by providing actionable career management perspectives, insights, and actions allowing them to avoid missteps and realize swifter advancement, greater job satisfaction, and enhanced lifetime earnings in a swiftly changing landscape.

The Wharton Global Clubs Team is pleased to offer this special program developed by the Wharton Club of Chicago. Chicago developed this program in response to alumni requests for assistance in navigating their careers through previously unseen levels of disruption and uncertainty brought about by the economic impact of Covid-19, geo-politics, ongoing advances in technology such as AI, and constant merger and acquisition activity redefining competitive landscapes. The 45-minute content-packed virtual presentation will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A.

The webinar will:
1.) Tangibly and materially highlight the importance of proactive, strategic career management;
2.) Provide an insightful, proven and actionable framework for conducting effective career management;
3.) Share valuable insights related to 6 career-building skills that are critical to achieving professional success.

Chris Nadherny has agreed to lead this program for Wharton Clubs. He is a Board member for the Chicago Club and a former 30-year C-Suite search consultant and Senior Partner from Spencer Stuart, the leading global executive search firm.

As a community, we can help each other. We have a shared experience.  #WeAreWharton

When we were in School, first we were helped by those ahead of us.  Then later we helped those following behind us.  This is true whether we graduated in 2019 or 1979.
