In my global strategy positions, I have led projects in 60+ countries and across industries of medical technology, semiconductor, aerospace, aviation, automotive, defense and intelligence. I have worked counseling the Board of Directors, Executive Committees, Business Segment Leaders, and Manufacturing Operations. This breadth of experience has given me great insight into crafting high performing, diverse teams - neurodiverse, gender diverse, functionally diverse and multi-cultural. I do consider myself a force multiplier and bring that passion and skill to all professional, volunteer and board work. I’m an effective and sought after speaker in numerous tech field, lately especially in 5G and AI. I studied that in electrical engineering undergraduate, so I like to joke that I got trendy in my 50s!
In addition to pushing with university leadership to found and get school resources and support for the creation of WCNCR, I have been very involved in the establishment of our great community. Before the actual launch of WCNCR in 2019, I led for most of ten years the DC Walnut Walk camaraderie get togethers that enjoyed great direct school support and very high attendance records. And gave us an interested database to pull from when we did get a club launch go ahead. I have championed quite a number of our WCNCR events over the last five years, including our 200+ person launch party, holiday gatherings, and support of various affinity events.
With my University of Maryland Alumni Association, the UMD Engineering Alumni, National Society of Women Engineers, the AAUW, and within industry groups, I have been very active in mentoring young women to include Junior HS girls, early university and early career. This is so very important - "if I can see it, I can be it" is a very true maxim. I also advocate and do active allyship within executive committees on this point.
After losing my father to the rare and deadly glioblastoma brain cancer, I and my family are quite involved in cancer research support. For 25+ years, I have supported the American Cancer Society national office of fundraising through golf. This was a great combination of a passion and leveraging my strategic and analytic skills. It was very gratifying to bring ecosystem segmentation skills and executive business development into a decidedly non-analytic group, and radically improve their corporate outreach efficiency and up the donations. My family organizes and runs an annual golf fundraiser, The Fox Trot, and donates to the Jimmy Valvano Cancer Research Center. In aggregate, we are the largest and longest continuing private support. I also support other American Cancer Society fundraising events such as Daffodil Days, Holiday Wrappings, Relay.
Diversity:
As noted above, true team diversity is something ingrained in my global work - neuro diversity is a very significant differentiator in high tech as it is tightly linked to innovation and market disruption opportunities. I have decades of experience seeking out and recruiting diversity in my teams, encouraging holistically participation from all, and developing global teams that achieve extraordinary results.
Vision:
I’m very proud of the work we have done together to found, get up and running, and sustain our WCNCR community, especially through the crippling Covid-19 pandemic. I’ve been involved in many different aspects of the club. At this point, I am again based in Washington DC, and I would like to work with the club leadership to focus on strengthening the pipeline of club membership and accelerating corporate outreach and alliance building. Compared to our many sister alumni clubs, we stack up very well in our membership. We do however have a large untapped pool of alumni in greater DC. I see the WCNCR community as so positive, supportive, innovative and full of talent. I wonder why there would be so many local alumni who either don’t know of us or choose to not join. I would like to partner up on that as surely, we have additional great talent to pull into the fold.
