Professor Series: Vice Dean Mauro Guillén Discusses New Book The Perennials: The Megatrends Creating a Postgenerational Society

For over a century, we have defined life generationally — from the Baby Boomers to Generation X to the Millennials to Gen-Z.

But what if we’re wrong?

In his new book, The Perennials: The Megatrends Creating a Postgenerational Society, Guillen argues that, just like perennial gardens, which never fade or wither, changes in demographics and technology have uncoupled our lives from the generations into which we were born. Thus, perennials are people who don’t think or act their age. They find fulfillment in learning, working, and resting at all stages of life.

Please join the Wharton Club of the National Capital Region for a virtual discussion with Vice Dean Guillen about his new book. You may purchase The Perennials in advance here.

Mauro F. Guillén is one of the most original thinkers at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, where he is the Vice Dean of Wharton’s MBA Program for Executives. An expert on global market trends, he is a sought-after speaker and consultant. He combines his training as a sociologist at Yale and as a business economist in his native Spain to methodically identify and quantify the most promising opportunities at the intersection of demographic, economic, and technological developments. His online classes on Coursera and edX have attracted over 100,000 participants from around the world. He has won multiple teaching awards at Wharton, where his presentation on global market trends has become a permanent feature of over fifty executive education programs annually.
